Jazan University President inaugurates the symposium "Green Saudi Arabia... Safety for our health and quality of our life"

His Excellency the Jazan University President, Prof. Mar’ei bin Hussein Al-Qahtani, inaugurated the scientific symposium and the accompanying exhibition organized by the College of Medicine entitled “Green Saudi Arabia..Safety for our health and quality of our life” within the framework of the initiative of His Highness the Crown Prince “Green Middle East” at the College of Medicine auditorium this morning, in the presence of Vice Presidents and Deans of colleges and deanships.

His Excellency the President of the University stressed the global leadership role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on the vision of the Crown Prince to lead the region towards green communities that limit drastic and unplanned urbanization and environmental repercussions that may affect the health of the individual and society and the quality of life. Dr. Al-Qahtani praised the contribution of university employees in a number of development projects and research studies for land reclamation and the cultivation of beneficial plants, increasing green areas, and preserving perennial and endangered plants, and have been directed to make more efforts and initiatives in this aspect.

His Excellency planted the first seedlings to mark the launch of the university's initiative, after which he toured the accompanying exhibition, listening to an explanation from the students of the College of Medicine about the positive health effects of green spaces within urban areas that impact physical and mental health, based on scientific studies and research conducted in this regard.

The symposium began with a speech by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Anwar Makin, in which he reviewed the university's efforts to promote the green campus, noting that increasing green spaces contribute to promoting health, decreasing disease and death rates, improving mental and psychological health, and protecting the world from global warming and the negative effects on the health of communities.

After that, the Assistant Professor of Environmental Medicine at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the College of Medicine, Dr. Ahmed bin Yahya Al-Qasim reviewed the goals of the Green Middle East Initiative, stressing its importance in targeting the Middle East, which is the largest afforestation program in the world.

While the Dean of the Center for Research and Environmental Studies, Dr. Zarraq Al-Fayfi, spoke about the university's contributions through the Center for Research and Environmental Studies, noting that the center contributed to the project of planting oud and sandalwood and finding solutions to the deterioration of ficus trees and juniper forests in the region.
