The Community Service Department at the University Hospital is a newly established yet firmly rooted department. The hospital’s interest in volunteer work began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the urgent need for healthcare professionals became evident to address emerging challenges. This led to the establishment of the Health Volunteer Unit in partnership with the Health Volunteer Center at the Ministry of Health, which received official accreditation as one of the recognized volunteer units and was provided access to the Health Volunteer Platform to facilitate the recruitment and organization of volunteers. Continuing this commitment, a decision was issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the University Hospital on November 17, 2024, to establish the Community Service Department, enhancing the hospital’s role in serving the community and promoting a structured, institutional approach to health volunteering.
