  1. Catalysis Research in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals
  • More than two decades of research experience in refining and petrochemicals catalysis and products
  • Developed catalysts and processes for refining and petrochemical processes including heavy oil hydrocracking, petroleum desulfurization, propane dimerization, ethylene oligomerization, etherification to produce MTBE, toluene disproportionation, heavy aromatics transalkylation, methanol to propylene, polymers for drag-reduction applications and toluene alkylation to produce p-xylene.
  • Developed photo-nano-catalysts for environmental applications including CO2 conversion into hydrocarbons, dye removal from wastewater, removal of SRB from produced water, and CO2 capture from mobile sources.
  • Developed several research laboratory facilities at KFUPM for applied research projects.
  • Managed and contributed to several research projects for SABIC, Saudi Aramco, CIBA, UOP, BASF, JCCP, JPI, etc.
  • Developed several research proposals in refining and petrochemical catalysis, drag reduction in petroleum pipeline flow, crude oil assay, petroleum products evaluation, and CO2 and wastewater treatment.

  • Visiting Professor in Japan during July-Aug 2002 (4 weeks). Researched with Prof. Sachio Asaoka at the University of Kitakyushu, and developed several Catalysts based on Titania-Alumina and Zeolite for deep HDS of Heavy oil.
  • Visiting Professor in Japan during July-Aug 2003 (4 weeks). Researched with Professor Sachio Asaoka and his research group at the University of Kitakyushu, Evaluated catalytically a series of Catalysts for Hydrodesulfurization and Hydrocracking of thiophenic sulfur compounds and vacuum gas oils.
  • Visiting Researcher in Japan during August 2004 (4 weeks). Researched at Nippon Oil Research Institute Co. Ltd. Yokohama, Developed Novel Transalkylation Catalysts.
