About the Department …. A word of the Department Head

Epidemiology is the most important component of public health, defined as   the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events in specified populations, and the application of this study to the prevention and control of health problems.

The program provides learners with the necessary knowledge on prevalent Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases of priority in the local and regional context, in addition to basic demography, healthcare systems management, quality and patient safety, nutrition, mass gathering, maternal and child health and others. The necessary skills related to diseases surveillance, outbreak investigation, research design, data collection, management, analysis, interpretation and communication of findings are also a major component of this program in addition to the most recent applications of public health informatics.     

The Department of Epidemiology was established in 2013 as the first academic department in the College of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, a real and conscious response to the nature of this tropical region of Jazan and the growing need to build local capacities.

More than 315 students were graduated from the Department of Epidemiology, who are currently working for well distinguished institutions in technical and leadership positions with outstanding competency, responsibility about self-development and actively engaged in serving their community.

The Department of Epidemiology is rich with diverse selection of qualified faculty members who are endowed with high standard qualifications attained from the most prestigious universities around the world.

We are very proud of the epidemiology department’s excellent academic and research achievements, productive relation with governmental and private health organizations, local community, national and international institutions.
