Jazan University organizes the second exhibition on vector-borne diseases

His Excellency the President of Jazan University, Prof. Dr. Mar’ei bin Hussein Al-Qahtani, inaugurated this morning the activities of the second exhibition to create awareness about vector-borne diseases under the title: "A society aware of disease vectors". The exhibition is organized by the College of Applied Medical Sciences, represented by the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Municipality of Jazan Region and the Public Health Authority, Weqaya and Weqaa Center.

President Prof. Dr. Mar’ei bin Hussein Al-Qahtani, stressed the importance of the exhibition in raising awareness of disease vectors, and the crucial role of partnerships and cooperation between the university and the concerned authorities, noting the university's research role in this field.

His Excellency toured the accompanying exhibition, which was conducted by the college students, and included displaying scientific posters and awareness leaflets about vector-borne diseases.

The Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Ayman bin Muhammad Madkhali, explained that the exhibition aims to review the great efforts made by various parties in the field of disease vector control, and seeks to spread awareness among male and female students and members of society. We also aspire to promote the principle of good health, and enhance cooperation between the authorities related to disease vector control and Jazan University.

A number of scientific lectures were held within the scientific program of the exhibition, starting with a lecture on the epidemiological situation of malaria and dengue fever in the Jazan region, presented by Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahli, Director of Public Health and Disease Vectors Department at Jazan Health Authority, and the representative of the Municipality of Jazan, Engineer Abdul Rahman Haddadi, reviewed the integrated control of disease vectors.

 

For his part, Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Manea, Director General of the Waqaa Center at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, gave an overview of the Waqaa program and its role in combating disease vectors. Dr. Yassin Al-Harbi, Director of the Tropical Laboratory, presented the topic of the strategy to combat Rift Valley Fever in the Jazan region, and the program concluded with the participation of the Head of the Medical Laboratory department at the university, Dr. Abdullah Al-Qaisi and Dr. Nader Kamli, a specialist in bacteriology, on vector-borne viral diseases prevalent in the Jazan region.
