The Minister of Education praises Jazan University for developing coffee cultivation
Jazan University: Media Department His Excellency the Minister of Education, Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Bunyan, praised the role of Jazan University in developing coffee cultivation, during his visit to the University pavilion that has been set up at the Sustainable Partnerships Conference organized by the Ministry of Education under the slogan "Research and Innovation towards a Prosperous Economy" at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh. His Excellency the Minister listened to an explanation from the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Muhammad bin Hassan Abu Rasin, about the vital role played by the Center for Environmental Research and Studies in mountainous areas, which contributed to transforming coffee cultivation into an economically feasible "industry" based on studies and research. And Dr. Abu Rasin stated that Jazan University experts have carried out many scientific research and field studies on coffee farms, in addition to holding training courses for farmers, which in turn contributed to supporting the capabilities of coffee farmers after helping them qualify and trained them on the latest scientific technologies and how to deal with crops and how to benefit from them as an organic product or a special variety of coffee. Dr. Abu Rasin informed that field studies estimated the number of coffee trees in the southern regions of the Kingdom to be about 100,000, producing about 320 tons of green coffee, and about 85-88% of this production comes from Jazan region, most of it from Al-Dayer Governorate, while the rest are distributed in farms across the Asir and Al-Baha regions.
