Jazan University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hassan bin Abdullah Ishaq, sponsored the scientific forum for drug abuse prevention in educational institutions and the accompanying exhibition, as part of the university’s activities in the national awareness campaign under the slogan “My country needs me” this morning at the auditorium of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Dr. Ishaq stressed the importance of holding such scientific forums and highlighting the active social role of the university through raising awareness about the harmful effect of drugs.

The forum started with an introductory video on the campaign “My country needs me” then Dr. Anwar Makin, Chairman of the Jazan University Campaign Committee for Awareness of Drug Abuse and Dean of the College of Medicine reviewed the most effective strategies for drug prevention in educational environments, while Dr. Ghada Zailai, a faculty member at the College of Education, explained the role of the educational institutions in drug prevention, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Yami, Supervisor of the Student Counseling Center, touched on the importance of the role of student counseling in drug prevention.

The Supervisor of the Substance Abuse and Toxicology Research Center at the university, Dr. Hassan Al-Hazmi, explained the importance of scientific research in drug prevention, reviewing the most prominent researches presented by the center, including: analysis of the contents of amphetamine tablets, which was applied to seizures in several governorates in the Jazan region, snuff and the detection of genetic toxicity in the snuff and the toxic metals it contains, in addition to the research presented by the center on the effect of khat.

Dr. Abdel Samad Sahli, a faculty member in the Department of Journalism and Media, presented a scientific paper on the role of communication messages and media campaigns in raising community awareness of the dangers of drugs.
