Jazan University organizes the first Academic Advising meeting

Jazan University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hassan bin Abdullah Ishaq, emphasized that the duty of the university professor is to sense the students’ need for guidance and advice, to be approachable for them, know their academic concerns, and to deal with all of them in an unbiased manner. The First Academic Advisory meeting was held yesterday morning, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Sciences, in the presence of the faculty members, Vice presidents for Academic Affairs and Supervisors of the academic advising units in the colleges.

Dr. Ishaq explained that counselling and guidance to students has to be done in an appropriate manner, and officials should provide students with the opportunity to express their problems and difficulties in their academic journey in order to overcome the obstacles, stressing on the importance of not dealing with students with superiority. We need to prepare them to accept setbacks and handle pressure and we have to learn about the different behaviour of students and their abilities because every student deserves our utmost care.

The Advisor at the Vice Presidency for Academic Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Hazmi gave a presentation entitled “Jazan University: an integrated university environment,” the consultant psychiatrist at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Musa Al Za’la, gave a presentation entitled “The psychological foundations of the counselling process.” The Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Ahmed Faqihi, gave a presentation on the “Bylaws of Study, Tests, and Executive Rules at the University,” the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Othman Hakami, presented a paper entitled “A list of student rights and duties.”

The meeting ended with an open discussion in which the attendees interacted with the University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hassan Ishaq, the University Vice President for Student Affairs, Prof. Aisha Zikri, the Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Ahmed Faqihi, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Othman Hakami.
