About the Department

The Department of English, University College, Farasan, was founded in (1429-1430 AH) / 2009. The department teaches all the three streams of English including Language, Literature and Linguistics courses for the graduate students.  The English program has four years degree course with eight levels in it.  The first batch of graduated students from this campus belonged to the year 1433 AH (2012).

The total credit hours of this degree course are 128 hours which are distributed for eight semesters.  These 128 hours include 110 hours of English course hours and 18 hours of Arabic language & Islamic courses hours. After the completion of all courses, Bachelor’s Degree in English Language is being awarded.  The department aims to impart excellent knowledge of English Language, Literature and Linguistics to enable the graduates to enter the academic jobs like teaching, translation or other developmental areas that require proficiency in English.  The job sectors constitute private and government sectors, public relations departments and public institutions, radio & television, tourism, banks, universities to contribute efficiently and effectively for the development of the Kingdom.

Students are specialized in English Language Skills, Linguistics, Literature and Translation studies and qualified to become teachers, translators, and continue education to become linguists and experts in literature and research fields.

The department offers an opportunity to the distinguished graduates of the department to work as teaching assistants and pursue higher studies abroad.
