The Medical Research Center was established to become a leading entity in conducting health research, based on the University's mission towards community service, and to be well known nationally and internationally for utilizing the best research practices. The center seeks to reserve a prime position in the elite list of medical and research centers, deriving its impact from the excellence of Jazan University and its accelerated steps towards an academic and research world in which accurate research information forms a basis for becoming a scientific power and a knowledge-based economy. The Medical Research Center is also the first of its kind in Jazan region, which has a specific goal in terms of research and community health service that the center can provide to the region. Its focus is on study of some tropical diseases such as dengue fever, Rift Valley fever, malaria, leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, and Genetic diseases such as sickle cell anaemia, thalassemia, and others. There are also other research opportunities that characterize the region in the field of basic and clinical medical research.
The center assists the university in carrying out its mission, whether in the field of research, through conducting research aimed at solving real world problems faced by society in the health care field. Or contribute to the development and training of health care professionals and provide community service. The center also has a future plan for research cooperation between it and the national and international organisations.
Based on what was approved in the new system of Saudi universities by the wise Leadership, may God protect him, which achieves a qualitative leap in the march of Saudi universities on the basis of empowerment, excellence, quality, and contribution to the development of the research process, and in line also with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The center’s plan this year, is based on several axes, namely the administrative axis, the focus on infrastructure, research activity, national and international cooperation, the axis of community service, continuing education, highlighting the role of the center and its position in the university, and the research of health care education students.
We are also currently focusing on increasing and expanding the center's area and transferring the relevant laboratories and research units to the university hospital. The presence of the center in the university hospital buildings increases its research opportunities and enhances the position of the center in the service of the hospital in terms of research that will serve the patients and the community.
