 Vision:

Qualifying general engineering students (first year) with the knowledge and skills that helps to distinguish them in their
scientific specialization.

 

 Mission:

Improving the educational process in general engineering (first year) at the College of Engineering by strengthening the administrative
and academic integration between the College of Engineering and other colleges and institutes of the university that teach general courses in the college.

 

Objectives: 

Paying attention to everything related to student affairs in general engineering (the first year) and general courses in the College of
Engineering’s plan in its three axes: the student, the course, and the educational environment, and supervising the development and implementation of its programs.

 

Affiliated to: 

The General Subjects Unit of the College of Engineering is unde the authority of the Dean of the College.

 

Unit Establishment:

The unit was established by a decision of His Excellency the University President.

 

Unit Functions:

1. Coordination between the College of Engineering and other colleges and institutes of the university regarding general engineering courses (first year ) of the study plan at the College of Engineering, in addition to other general courses taught from outside the college.

2. Supervising programs and workshops for receiving new students and coordinating tests to determine their English language and mathematical skills. 

3. Intensifying academic advising programs for general engineering students (first year).

4. Preparing and implementing indicative programs for education in engineering disciplines in cooperation with the college departments.

5. Preparing and implementing indicative programs for educating the mechanism of selecting specializations after passing general engineering (first year).

6. Proposing development plans to improve the outcomes of the first year of general engineering in the college and then supervising their implementation after approval in cooperation with the responsible authorities (such as periodic assistance sessions for students in general courses, improvements in curricula and plans for general engineering courses, extracurricular programs in English, mathematics, and others).

7. Spreading a culture of discipline, rights and duties, self-study and awareness of its importance in the university environment .

8. Working on controlling and developing the general engineering objectives of the college, methods of achieving these objectives, methods of evaluating them, and following up on their progress.

9. Supervising the process of preparing the academic schedule and the concerned colleges and institutes.

10. Assign schedules to faculty members in coordination with the concerned faculties in coordination with the Vice Deanship for Academic Affairs.

11. Ensuring the commitment of faculty members to their educational tasks from the first day of school and submitting periodic reports to the dean of the college.

12. Supervising the process of preparing and publishing a description of the content of general engineering courses (including the office hours of faculty members), following up its implementation, and educating students about its importance.

13. Preparing the schedule of the monthly exams in coordination with the course teachers and following up on holding the exams according to what is planned.

14. Coordinating with course instructors to cover the planned learning outcomes in the semester exams in accordance with the NCAAA National Accreditation Authority and ABET.

15. Analyzing the results of the year’s exams and preparing a comprehensive report containing a summary of the results and recommendations, and submitting it to the dean of the college.

16. Preparing the final exams schedule in coordination with the Vice Deanship for Academic Affairs and following up on holding exams according to what is planned.

17. Coordinating with course teachers to cover the planned learning outcomes in the final exams in accordance with the NCAAA and ABET. 

18. Analyzing the results of the final exams and preparing a comprehensive report containing a summary of the results and recommendations, and submitting it to the dean of the college.

19. Ensure the commitment of faculty members to achieve all learning outcomes and submit periodic reports to the dean of the college.

20. Carrying out other tasks assigned to the unit within the scope of its work.
