Workshops on Academic Guidance at Jazan University
College of Education Scientific Departments at Jazan University, conducted four training workshops on Academic Guidance for members of the teaching staff at the College headquarters. These sessions were carried out by Dr Fatimah Abdulaziz Aqili, Vice-Dean for Students Affairs. The first two sessions were attended by more than 86 staff members, or 43 faculties each, whereas the last two sessions were attended by almost fifty teaching staff, or an average of twenty-five each. The workshop lasted for the whole week, and each session lasted for two hours. All sessions started at ten in the morning and ended at noon.
The first and second workshop sessions focused on the objectives of academic guidance, tools, the roles and functions of the academic advisor. The importance of all of this was connected to the College general supervision. They also shed light on the characterization of the student advisors, their required roles, skills and expertise in this area. The rest of the workshops dealt with the study by-laws, undergraduate examinations, excuse cases and postponement cases and the difference between them, inter-colleges transfer, inter-department transfer, cases of drop-out and re-enrolment (study resumption), university rewards system, as well as a review of the potential difficulties and virtual problems and how to find effective solutions.
In regards to this, Dr Aqili, Vice-Dean for Students Affairs, stressed that it is important to hold such workshops for the faculty members, especially for the opportunity to discuss and interact with the basis of practically applying the skills gained. They eventually serve in maintaining the quality standards at Jazan University.
